I’m Lovin’… Valentines Day

Yesterday I had a movie night with my amigos, we went out to eat and gathered at my house to watch the classic National Treasure. It was nice to catch up and just chill :] For our movie snacks we had chocolate popcorn (made by a local street vendor in my neighborhood), coke/sprite, and my mommy’s homemade Lemon Bars. Yumm…

Valentines Day is almost in our grasp <3 and to tell you the truth I haven’t thought about it much. I think I might make some goody bags for my sis’ but I need to think about it more this weekend… Hope you get lots of Xs’ and Os’ this year on Valentines Day!

Late Night Snack

Let’s face it, it is intrinsic to have late night cravings. Unfortunately for me it is a terrible sweet tooth – which often lands me in the dentists office – but that’s beside the point. My late night snack tonight is 1/2 blonde and 1/2 brownie! Such contrast – such sweet balance – they were made for each other! Just like yin and yang. Ok, maybe I’m over dramatizing this, but I was thrilled to find that my mom had made a pan of blondes when I came home from school today. I waited until Mom and Dad were safely tucked in bed, then I sneaked to the kitchen to get this amazing snack!

My Favorite Snacks

Hello! School has been crazy but God has definitely helped me through this first week back through these verses in Psalm 49:18-19 : When I said, “My foot is slipping” your love, O Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.  That verse always reminds me to thank God for everything I have!

Today I would like to share with you guys some of my favorite snacks, for those times I need a little treat. I love food and I don’t know what life would be like without our pantry stocked with some of these items :]  1. Pretzels:  I love pretzels because they are the perfect snack for when you’re craving something salty.

2. Hot Cocoa: Hot Chocolate is perfect for whenever I’m cold and in need of a sweet drink to gulp down.

3. No Bake Cookies:  I love making no bake cookies real quick to bring to school or to have over the weekend.

4. Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing are to die for… I would chomp those down anyday!

5.  Fresh Fruit are perfect for when you want something crisp, sweet and, of course, healthy.

Mama What’s Cookin’? “Tomato” Restaurant Edition

After five long and glorious weeks of winter break, free from school, teachers and exams, I’m now (as of today) back in a classroom. Goodbye to late night movies, Starbucks coffee outings and days where my to do list consists of <1. get dressed & brush hair 2. watch Adobe application tutorials 3. Take sisters out to dinner>. Today we started school in a brand new building and it was wonderful… well except for the fact that I had to leave my house 10 minutes earlier than usual to catch the bus (hey, 10 minutes is a lot when your talking getting ready in the morning), waiting in the frigid weather because Mom want’ed to make “certain” we didn’t miss the bus, and having my body temperature turn from freezing to boiling in a matter of precisely 2 minutes after loading the bus because of extreme overuse of bus heating capabilities. The day progressed more smoothly once I actually arrived at the new campus.

Anyway, on to what this post is actually supposed to be about:

During our winter vacation in Malaysia we adopted a small, beach side Indian/Malaysian restaurant as our very own. I don’t exactly know why but the restaurant was named, “Tomato” and its a small place nudged between two larger restaurants, although its easy to miss on a drive-by, we found that it was almost always packed with people inside. The prices were literally dirt cheap, the selection of dishes vast, and the various curries, rotti, and rices were delicious. Throughout our stay, we ate there at least four times, including once for a 2:00 am snack! The popular Malaysian drinks such as kopi (Malaysian coffee) or teh (like a milk tea) were spectacular not to mention the large variety of other drinks they provided. In remembrance of this cute restaurant, brighten your Monday by taking a friend to eat Indian food with you and talk of pleasant things!

Want a S’more?

This week me and the girls decided to have a midnight snack of S’mores over our gas stove!  (Don’t worry I googled whether that was safe or not and I got a thumbs up:) So we popped open the bag of marshmallows and roasted away… We made the most delicious creation of S’mores! I’m sure to have another one …or two… or three very soon! Have you had any yummy midnight snacks lately?

Mama What’s Cookin’? Carrot Cake Donuts

I was craving something different for breakfast this morning, something other than Maddie’s crepes [which she makes almost “every” non-school morning– I mean I like crepes but they get kind of old after a while– no offense Maddie]… Anyway, I was super excited to start this exciting venture BUT to my disappointment the recipe I wanted to use called for an overnight stay in the fridge for the little blob of sticky dough. Well, I decided to make it anyway and after sticking the dough safely in the fridge. I mixed up a batch of fluffy white biscuits for breakfast.

P.S. We topped our donuts with scoops of vanilla ice cream, you can also top your donuts with a simple cream cheese icing or even dip them in glaze and sprinkles!

I’m Lovin’…Mexican Food!

Sunday afternoon I visited a new Mexican Food Restaurant for lunch at a popular shopping centre called the Magnetic Center. This was a very special occasion because in Tianjin, Mexican food doesn’t exists. After examining the menu, I ordered the chicken quesadilla with cheddar cheese (which is also a rare item to find in China) and my mom ordered the Burrito Bowl with lime rice and cilantro. The food came out surprisingly fast and the taste testing began. I found that my quesadilla was quite tasty but Mom’s Burrito Bowl was a, something-you-can-make-at-home kind of dish. I was happy with my meal and although it was a bit pricy it was an overall good experience. An added bonus was that we (just Mom and I) were able to try it out before bringing the whole family of six there. With that said, this experience reminds me of all the amazing Mexican Food out there. I can’t wait until this summer when our family will get to visit family in America and -while we’re at it- devour some delicious “authentic” Mexican Food.
