Shrine wierdness!

I know that I’m kinda late on Thailand but I have more to say! When I was in Thailand I saw something very peculiar to me! There were small little temples for the Thai peoples’ gods everywhere! Mostly near restaurants, hotels, and big houses. There were also very pretty ones that had gold paint and shiny things on them. Another thing that interested me was that every day people would set food in the small temple near where the god was sitting. It was interesting to see all these temples in Thailand!

Cotton Candy

I never would have guessed that there would be Cotton Candy in China! Although it doesn’t taste exactly the same in American as it does here it still tastes good! We went to an outside walking strip called the Culture Street. It has a bunch of cultural Chinese things like, fans, paintings, and clothes. We went to get some Chinese dresses called qi paos! They are really neat and we wanted them for China day! A day where we do Chinese things at school! During this time shopping I had two Cotton Candies! They were delicious!

The person making the Cotton Candy was cooking it on a bike!

I Miss You Thailand!

-Thailand was a great time to goof off, and also to be calm!

We had times when we sat around together and had a quiet time and times where we ran around being crazy. we did things I’ll never forget like…

Cookie Party

On the last day of school before Christmas break our class had an annual Christmas cookie party! Instead of staying at school we went to our teachers house and made cookies. The apartment was packed and everyone was either playing board games or playing on electronics. It was really fun. Also since it was a half day it was great timing!

Waterfall Day

One day we were in Thailand we went to a waterfall. when we got out of the car we saw elephants you could ride. We decided not to ride them right then so we kept going to the waterfall. When we got there we looked around a little and then got in the lagoon under the waterfall. The water was pretty cold but it was alright. After we played around we got out and went back up to the elephants. we decided we wouldn’t ride them but we could buy some food for them to eat. They would take the food from our own hands! It was really cool. After we fed them we got back in the car and went back to our hotel.

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving we had two families over for dinner.  Both of the families go to our school and we were glad they could come.  I had a lot of fun cooking with mom.  I helped make Special K Bars. They are like rice crispie treats, but with some chocolate and peanut butter.  Some dishes we made were Turkey(of course), mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and a lot of desert. Some of the deserts were Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Cheese cake, and whipped cream. This was a great Thanksgiving!  We ate a lot of food and the desert was delicious!

Spirit Week

One week around November our school has Spirit Week! It is a week when you dress up into different costumes and get points for your house. It is a very fun week and I enjoy it very much. Some of the costumes I dressed as was a nerd, a colorful day, and 100% Grey. I’m also looking forward to next years Spirit Week.

First Snow

One Sunday I woke up to the sound of my dad telling me it was snowing! I was really tired so I went back to sleep but when I woke up it was still snowing! We went to church with no problem but then we couldn’t get a taxi back home! so we decided to go on a bus my dad found out what bus to take and we got on one. after we got on and rode for a while we realized that we were not going to be dropped off very close to home. the bus stopped and we got out to start to walk. our other friends were with us in the bus and thankfully they knew where to go. So we started to go on our LONG walk. it was freezing cold, snow was pouring down, and we were starting to get really cold and tired! We finally got home into our semi-warm house and started to get dry and warm. Then we had leftover soup with friends and played poker with Chinese coins. It was a great weekend even though we got cold and wet it was fun.

Take a Picture — Maddie

Megan with our favorite cab driver

I’ve learned in China that you can make a Chinese person’s day by taking a picture with them or even stopping to talk with them. When we are out and about in Tianjin,  we are usually approached by someone who wants to take a picture of us, especially Megan.  Many foreigners in our city get annoyed with the Chinese for doing this and can be very rude or even ignore them.  Chinese people love to take pictures of foreigners on their cell phone and they will keep pictures stored there for a very long time.  Each time we ride with this one particular taxi driver’s cab, he gets out his cell phone to show Megan the picture he has of her.I don’t mind taking a picture, it’s one way I can show an act of kindness.

Sword Play

On International Day this year at my school, we celebrated the country of Australia.  There were also many Chinese performances too.  Below is a picture with me, my two best friends and our Chinese language teachers.
